How soon? Well to be honest as soon as they are born. This is not to say that all dogs are born with a naturally aggressive temperament (although some are) rather, as young puppies, they learn bad habits through negative experiences, often through their breeders. That’s why training for aggressive dogs should start when they’re puppies. By doing so, you can teach your dog positive habits from a young age.

Knowing how to treat aggressive dog behavior from an early age is vital to prevent your dog from becoming an aggressive beast. By putting off training for aggressive dogs, you will only make the task more difficult once they’ve established bad habits and a lack of obedience.

You can seek private training for aggressive dogs if you want to be guided step by step in the process of training. Obedience schools can be expensive however. Alternatively if you want to learn how to treat aggressive dog behavior at your own leisure, you can read books on dog training and obedience.

If you fail to show authority and leadership at an early age, your puppy may lack obedience and learn to disobey commands. You can start dog training for the aggressive behavior at anytime. Even when your dog has become a bit of a nightmare, it still can be done, although it can require a lot more work and effort on your behalf.

Basic obedience training requires implementation of routine in your puppy’s daily life, including fixing a feeding time. Avoid aggressive games such as wrestling as your puppy may find it difficult to distinguish a play fight and a real fight. Letting him win in aggressive games will only increase his will to dominate, which is going against dog training for aggressive behavior.

There are several behaviors that your dog may present that seem harmless but should be disapproved of. In the wild the leader stands over the backs of other dogs as a sign of authority. By letting your dog stand at a higher level than you or your children he may learn to become accustomed to this behavior and try and take lead.

Like I said, letting him get away with bad behavior when he is a puppy might seem harmless, however you’ll have a problem in a few years when he’s 10 pounds heavier and more aggressive.

It’s important to pet your dog and praise him when he does something good. Try and avoid petting him when he is growling or snarling to calm him down, however. Rather, be firm and show authority, say ‘no’ and only pet him after he has calmed down. Or else he may use growling to get attention.

Once you take charge and start training for aggressive dogs you can begin to build a strong relationship of respect and loyalty. Don’t end up with the dog from hell.
