Labrador Crate Training

Labrador Crate Training the Easy Way

If you are planing to use a  Lab puppy crate then you will need some Labrador Crate Training tips.

I have found this short video that explains the basics I hope it helps.

So now you have watched the video on Labrador crate training lets run through what you need to do.

The Lab Puppy crate will be one of the best purchases you will make, it will help you so much with the first few months of settling your Lab puppy into your home and this will also help with your Lab Puppy training.

So the first thing we need to do is train your lab puppy to go into the crate. So here is my step-by-step guide to your Labrador Crate training.

  • The first thing we need to do is make the crate as comftable as possible for your Lab Puppy. Firstly put in your Labrador dog blanket and provide a Labrador puppy toy.
  • If you have a large puppy crate you could also put a bed in it.
  • Drape something over the cage ( I used an old duvet cover) this will make the crate more cosy and den-like.Plus it will help to keep the light out and in the summer this is a great help otherwise your puppy could be waking you up at 4am thinking it’s time to get up.
  • The first stage is to get your puppy into the crate to do this the easiest way is to throw a treat or toy into the crate.
  • Once your puppy is inside praise and stroke him, remember leave the door open. Keep your puppy inside the crate for a few minutes by playing a game, reward him and then let him out.
  • When your puppy is getting tired and this will happen a lot, take him to his crate and repeat the above process but this time close the door.
Top Tip: Do Not leave the room immediately, or your puppy will think he is being deserted and he will not settle.
  • Stay quietly in the room for a few minutes paying no attention to the puppy. If he starts to whine or bark just ignore him.
  • Your puppy will quickly realise that making a fuss is getting him nowhere and if he is tired he will settle very quickly.
