Leash Training a Puppy Stop Puppy Pulling On Lead
Leash Training a puppy How to Stop your Puppy Pulling on it’s Lead
It’s great to see your lab puppy having a positive response to his lead, but we don’t want him steaming ahead and pulling on the lead. When he is little it will not seem like a big deal but when your Labrador is a full grow adult he will be very strong and it could become a major problem.
So lets look at the simple steps to stop puppy pulling on lead

Stop Puppy Pulling On Lead
- If your Lab puppy starts pulling on the lead don’t be tempted to pull him back, if the lead is tight your puppy will pull harder.
- As soon as your puppies lead goes taut, stop, and then call your puppy to your side. reward him for coming back to you, then set off again giving him the command “Heel”
Top Tip: Don’t make the mistake that may new puppy owners make, Only say the “heel” command when he is in the right position, not when he is pulling ahead or lagging behind.
- When your puppy pulls ahead again, do exactly the same as you did before. I found that having a squeaky toy that Loretta was only allowed on her walks worked a treat. If she pulled ahead I would squeak the toy and as a reward she was allowed to have it. Then if she pulled again I would call her back and she would then get a treat and I would retrieve the Labrador puppy toy to be used again.
- In time, your new Labrador puppy will learn that pulling is counter-productive because he will keep having to stop, and not be able to explore the great outdoors.
