The First steps to Puppy Proofing your Home
Watch This short Video On Puppy Proofing Your Home
I hope the video helped you with your first steps on puppy proofing your home for your new Labrador Puppy.
Hopefully you will have a week or two to prepare your home before your Labrador puppy arrives.
It is very important step to get your house in order and from experience it will make the first day with your lab Puppy less stressful.
One of the great advantages of having a puppy is you will keep your house much tidier. No longer will shoes be left by the front door when you come into your house.Your shoes will now have to be put away or you will find your favourite shoes will be chewed up by the new member of the family.
Yes that cute lovable adorable Labrador puppy will chew your shoes if you leave them out and I’m afraid you will only have yourself to blame.
Children’s toys will have to be put away when they have finished playing with them. Plates and cups will need to be taken straight into the kitchen, because if you leave them out your lab puppy will find them. So from now on you will have to be very careful and not leave anything out that can harm your puppy.
So are you ready for Puppy Proofing your home.
Firstly you need to decided which rooms your new lab puppy will be allowed into, with that in mind your next step is to get on all fours and go into each room. this may sound crazy but you will get a much better feel for what needs to be done in each room.
When I did this I must admit that I made sure no one was in the house, but to be honest it did make this job a lot quicker. It was surprising how many wires you see dangling down from table lamps Etc.
With this in mind you will either need to buy a thick, cable protector which can be placed over the cables, to make them chew-proof or you can buy special cable clips.
Your household cleaning products will need to be stored in a cupboard out of harms way, no longer will you be able to keep the bleach on the floor next to the toilet and you will have to teach everyone in the house to keep the toilet seat closed. You would be surprised how many puppies have drowned because the toilet seat has been left up and the puppy has fallen in.
You will also need to find a cupboard to store your puppy food, If you are feeding your lab puppy dried food and you leave the bag out, your puppy will find a way of getting into that bag.
If you are a proud owner of potted plants then you will need to find a place to put them, otherwise your puppy will eat them and there are some plants that can be very poisonous to dogs. Click Here for Plants Poisonous to Dogs
So today go round your house with a pad and pen, make notes on wires, plants toys, etc. Right a list of all the things that need to be moved, tied and tided. Look at your house though your puppies eyes, and try and work out the best way to guard your valuables and keep your Labrador puppy safe.
Have fun and I wish you Luck with Puppy Proofing your Home.
