How to Teach Dog Sit – Step-by-Step Instructions

How to teach dog sit the easy way – So let us start your lab puppy training and the teach dog how to sit command. This is an easy exercise, but remembers not to try any lab puppy training when your puppy is tired.

So where do we start with are teaching dog sit?

How to Teach Dog Sit - This is Jasper who as you can see is sitting down looking very cute and pleased with himself.

Firstly get your lab puppy’s attention, show him that you have a treat in your hand
Hold the treat just above his nose so he has to look up at it. Wait a few seconds, keep your hand still and your puppy should lower his hindquarters and go into the sit position.
As he moves into the right position give him the command “sit “praise him and give him a treat.
Repeat this, teach a dog to sit exercise a couple more times and then have a game.

Sometimes puppies can be slow to catch on to teaching dog sit, so you will need to give him a helping hand.

So to do this gentle apply pressure on his hindquarters and this will encourage him to sit.
When he does give him a treat and use the sit command. You will find he will learn this lab puppy training exercise very quickly.

Why not start using this at mealtimes, hold the food bowl just above your puppy’s head and ask him to sit when he does you can give him his food as a treat.

You can practise the sit command in a variety of situations and when you do remember to give him a treat and lots of praise.

Once he has got use to the sit command you will no longer need to lure him with a treat.
