Well you have two options, either stop roughhousing with her all together or train her to no when enough is enough. Some people will squeal like a puppy when a dog bites too hard. This usually works, but i have no experience when doing that. What i did was say a word to tell me dog that enough playing. Since puppy hood we played/roughhoused with my dog and when she got her adult teeth it does get a bit more painful, so when she bit too hard i would simply say ‘Tess, Go!’ and point to the door, i would then walk out the door to say that playing was over. I was just consistent with this method and it works. I can now roughhouse with my dog and when she does get carried away i just say ‘Tess, Go!’ and she will immediately stop. The same when she TRIES to do it to my little cousins or any young children for that matter, i would just say ‘Tess, Go!’ but a little sterner and she will immediately stop and come to me.
Whenever it bites you should try squealing or gently tapping her on the nose. Not too hard so that it hurts but just so that it almost hurts.
The best thing to do to stop nipping and mouthing is to let out a puppy like yelp, this immediately makes the puppy back away as it is what her litter mates would do. Its a way to let them know that it hurts. They won’t understand all the no’s and putting them in another room etc. When they nip, you yelp then turn your back on them (get visitors to do the same) they will soon get the message of ‘ouch that hurts and i am not playing because of it’ Try this link for a full guide.
You should also teach your puppy the ‘leave it’ command this is not only for objects but also helps them control their bite inhibition (become more aware of how people like to be interacted with). This will show you how (its really easy)
Puppies also bite and mouth because they are teething and is heavily linked to chewing. So relieve the pain a bit with these quick fixes and you should see an improvement
Well she is going to keep doing it as long as she thinks you are playing around. I would use a command like “shame” and cover my eyes with her. Herding dogs get upset if they think they hurt your feelings so covering your eyes or turning your back on them usually works. Some people yelp when the puppy bites them, if that works do it, my puppies think I am playing when I do that. You really just need to let her know you are not playing, and you are serious. Make sure she has carrots or bones to chew on for those teeth.
The breed is a herder. That is what they are bred to do. They must be managed by a person who understands what the dog needs. I would get a book on my breed and learn how to handle it or give it away to a home where someone knows how to deal with a herder dog like a border collie or australian shepherd. They bit the sheep or cows heals to move them around the field. Find some outlet and exercise for the dog. They are not a great inside dog, they need to run.
