Labrador Training Puppy

Labrador Training Puppy – Where Did It All Go Wrong?

Just think back to the first day with your new lab puppy. Labrador Training Puppy – where did it all go wrong? You had the he family all gathered round and everyone had smiling faces and they all agreed this was the best day every. There sitting in front of you is the cutest Labrador puppy that you had ever set your eyes on. Everyone wanted to take their turn at playing with him and there were disappointed faces all round when the puppy went to sleep.

It’s been a couple of weeks now since you brought your new lab puppy home and you seem to be the only one that has anything to do with him.

All your dreams of the kids playing with the puppy outside and getting some much needed fresh air have gone. The sounds of the laughter coming from the back garden can no longer be heard. All you can hear now is the sound of the tv and yes they have gone back to their old ways. The computer games are back on the agenda and the only noises you hear are “mum get the puppy out of here I’m trying to play my game” Or you hear the sounds of a child screaming and it’s getting louder and those words that you dread “Mum the puppy bite me again”

Those dreams of on the weekend you pack up the car with the family, a picnic and your lab puppy are now in the past. Those thoughts of the kids going on a walk with you and puppy are long gone. That family bonding is just not happening.

So what went wrong?

I recently did a survey on the the main course for concern with Labrador Training Puppy and I honestly thought the main concern for new lab puppy owners would be dogs toilet training but to my surprise it was the problem of puppy biting. I have received many emails about this, and if you look on the many forums my favourite being www.labradorforums.co.uk, this has to be the major issue.
I have written a post on puppy training biting that has helped many people but some of you need more.

If you have had a look around the site you will probably see that I only cover the first few weeks of  Labrador Training Puppy. I don’t feel that I have the experience to handle more complicated matters, so when a major issue occurs I feel that an expert is required who has helped many lab puppy owners with their problems.
So with that in mind I have found someone that has had many years experience and has helped his name is Daniel Stevens. Daniel he has helped over 216,196 dog owners worldwide and has solved their dog’s behaviour problems. He has produced a dog training course that covers many aspects

How to stop a biting puppy
Where and when it is appropriate to bark
To stop digging up your yard
To stop chewing your furniture and clothes
To stop being aggressive towards people and other dogs
To stop whining, especially at night.
To stop bolting out the front door
To stop pulling on the leash
To stop jumping up on strangers and other family members
Potty training secrets, and a whole lot more!

His methods for solving these problems are not about dog training that teaches you how to get your
dog to obey by hitting, scolding or abusing your dog.

It does NOT encourage you to punish or hurt your dog in any way.

Here’s what it IS about…

You’ll learn how to get your dog to WANT to please you and WANT to
be a good dog.

One of his big successes is his step-by-step instruction on puppy training biting. When a puppy bites you must remember this is part of his learning process. When he is in the nest with the other Labrador puppies he has to fight back to survive. In nature it is the survival of the fittest. When your puppy arrives at your home he will want to be number one and if he bites and gets the reaction that he wants, he starts to move up the pecking order and then you will have more problems with dominance and aggression issues.

Daniel will show you how you should communicate with your dog.

It’s not your fault, when your Labrador Training Puppy goes wrong, most dog owners make the same mistakes and you’ll be so impressed with the changes in your dog’s behaviour once you worked through his training.

Wouldn’t you like to have all the family helping you with your puppy again and all enjoying having him around so how to get Daniels course Secrets to Dog Training?

Dog Coprophagia – Stop My Puppy Eating Poop

Dog Coprophagia How do you Stop your Puppy Eating Poop

Dog coprophagia yes that’s the proper name is but most of us call it puppy eating it’s poop Yuk!!!

When this happens you will probably feel like you are the only puppy owner out their that has a puppy that does this disgusting thing, but your not. It’s also not the sort of thing you want to talk to your friends about, especially when your best friend loves it when your puppy come up and licks her face and thinks that it’s adorable. How could you tell her that your lab puppy has just been outside to the loo and eaten it’s own poop and has just licked her face.

Puppy Eating Poop

Puppy Eating Poop

So Dog coprophagia, why does your puppy eat it’s poop and how can we stop it.

Firstly I asked the vet if a puppy was eating poop was it a vitamin deficiency and she said “no it’s just a bad habit that needs to be nipped in the bud now”.

So how do you stop Dog coprophagia?

I have spent many hours researching this subject and I am pleased to tell you in the process I have lost weight this week. Lets hope I have found you the information that you need to stop your puppy eating poop.

So this is what I have found out how to stop your puppy eating poop.

  • If your puppy is eating it’s own poop then when you take it outside always have dog poop bags with you so you can pick the poop up. Distract your lab puppy with a treat while he is busy eating his treat pick up the poop.
  • Another trick is to sprinkle something on it’s food so when it comes out of the other end it doesn’t taste very nice. A lot of people suggested meat tenderizer in his food, I would be cautious with this one as I would be concerned about the ingredients that are in this, other people have recommended 3 products that can be bought on-line or in pet shops. The names of those products are For-bid , Deter and Solid Gold S.E.P. (Stop Eating Poop).
  • Lots of people also suggested adding Corgettes and Pineapples as they are also said to be unpalatable when they come out of the other end so you might want to try mixing these in with food.
  • If your puppy is eating other dogs poop when you are on a walk take a water spray with you, fill this with water and a few drops of lemon juice and spray the offending poop with the mixture, your puppy will not like the smell.
  • Does your puppy eat too fast? another reasoning for eating poop is because when your puppy eats to fast their food doesn’t have time to digest. And when he poops after eating his poop is still like fresh dog food for him. I would recommend when feeding him (he will get it after a few times of feeding) you just start out giving him a tiny bit of food in his bowel. When he is finished give him a tiny more, then again and again till he eats all his food. That will teach him to slow down when eating and he won’t be tempted to eat his own poop.
  • It may be related to boredom or stress. The particulars of this theory are hazy, but essentially, bored or stressed dogs – such as those that spend too much time on their own, those that lead under stimulated, under exercised lives, and those that are excluded from family life and adequate human attention and affection – often succumb to strange and compulsive habits, like pulling out their own fur, spinning in circles for hours on end, and (theoretically, at least) poop eating. In other words, a dog will eat poop simply because there’s nothing else for him to do.
  • Improperly toilet trained dogs sometimes eat their own poop in an attempt to conceal the “crime” from their owners and thus avoid detection. This is especially true of dogs whose owners tend to punish them for house training mistakes, whether out of impatience/frustration or because they believe that the dog is somehow doing it to “spite” them.
  • Teach your dog the “leave it” command for those times when you want to be able to walk him off-lead. Reliable obedience in the “leave it” makes off-lead walks a real pleasure (and it’s a lot safer for your dog, too – the usefulness of “leave it” applies to things like herbicide, snail bait, and broken glass as well as poop!).

So the long term solution is to train your puppy to stop eating poop. If you make a big fuss when your Lab puppy eats poop and try to stop him mid-scoff, he is  more likely to simply attempt to be quicker next time. Your lab puppy may even think you are in competition and trying to reach the poop first because you desire to have it. The eating of poop has then become a significant event and could easily escalate into a habit. Distraction and reward is therefore preferable. Teaching the leave command can help. Start with something of low value before you graduate to using the leave command on something as rewarding as poop eating.

I hope this information on Dog Coprophagia – Stop My Puppy Eating Poop has helped, if you have heard of any other tricks that have worked for you please leave a comment.

Lab Puppy Training – Puppy Aggression

Puppy Aggression – What to do?

Puppy Aggression if your Lab Puppy has a sound temperament, aggression with other dogs is very unlikely to be deep-seated. Your puppy is more likely to be trying it on with others dogs as he is adjusting to his new maturity.

Puppy Aggression

Puppy Aggression

Learn more secrets to control puppy aggression here

  • The first thing you need to do is introduce your Lab puppy to an older dog who isn’t easily provoked. You need to start off with both dogs on their leads on (remember to keep the leash slake, tension on the lead will cause you puppy to become more hyped up).
  • Have a toy and treats with you and distract your puppy make him will listen to you, and then let him go back to the other dog.
  • Start walking the 2 dogs together, you will need to try and keep your lab puppies attention on you.
  • You may need to repeat this exercise a couple of times, But when you think your dog is ready take the leads off and allow the 2 dogs to interact. If you follow these simple steps by the time your puppy has got over the excitement, hopefully he will play with the other dog without showing any aggression.
  • If you are really worried about your puppy biting the other dog then you will have to consider putting a muzzle on him. This will make you far more relaxed when you are out with him, and you will become more confident that he will be unable to inflict any damage on another dog.

Top Tip: Do not avoid situations where you will meet other dogs. It is far better to let your puppy meet other dogs. Sign up for a local training class, so that your dog will meet other dogs in a controlled, working environment.
